They say the days are long, but the years are short- and when it comes to decorating homes, that couldn't feel more true. Between busy schedules, changing seasons and constantly evolving trends, keeping up with seasonal decorating can start to feel overwhelming.

The truth is, seasonal decorating doesn't have to be all or nothing. In this post, I'm sharing my approach to seasonal decorating through simple swaps and layering subtle touches that blend seamlessly with a neutral, everyday home.

Start With a Neutral Base

Keeping your core pieces the same is key. Your sofa, rug, bedding and other main furniture should be the canvas that you build around. These are the anchors of your space- not pieces you want to swap out every season. I also want to add that when I say neutral- that does not automatically mean boring, sad beige or all white. A neutral base can include soft grays, creams and other muted textures that feel timeless and are easy to build on. Even touches of wood are great to build on and something I personally want to begin adding more of in my home.

When your core pieces stay the same- seasonal decorating becomes more about layering, not redoing. This saves time, money and lots of trips to HomeGoods. Once your neutral base is in place, the rest of your seasonal decor can be as simple as a few small, intentional swaps.

Small, Simple Swaps

Seasonal decor should enhance your home- not take over. Instead of decorating an entire room, I like to focus on the small details that instantly make a space feel updated and on brand for the season.

Some of my favorite swaps include:

  • Pillow covers and throws

  • Florals (fresh or fake- I don't judge)

  • Trays and small tabletop decor

These small changes give your home a seasonal feel without looking cluttered or overly themed. This also makes it super easy to swap out decor for when the next season rolls around.

By keeping things simple and focusing on small swaps, your home can easily evolve and change with the seasons without the stress of constant redecorating. Subtle updates can make a big impact.

Keep Seasonal Decor Contained

Instead of decorating every room, I like to choose one or two key areas to focus on. My two favorites are typically the kitchen and living room- since that's where most of our time is spent. I especially love changing out the decor on my island tray, just like the one pictured above. It's a simple, yet effective way to refresh the space without having to rethink the entire room.

This Valentine's decor from target is a great example of how a few small swaps can bring in seasonal charm without feeling overwhelming or a little too "extra."

Seasonal decor should feel fun, not stressful. With a neutral foundation and a few fun changes, your home can reflect the season in a way that feels simple, intentional, and easy

to maintain.
